What are cluster lashes?

Cluster lashes are small pre-made fans of four to ten individual lashes, bonded together at the base. You apply them in sections underneath your natural lash line rather than one lash at a time, which is what makes a full set achievable at home in minutes. Depending on the system, a set lasts three to ten days and costs a fraction of salon extensions.

They sit in the gap between two things New Zealand women already know: strip lashes, which go on in seconds but come off the same night, and salon extensions, which look beautiful but cost over a hundred dollars a set and need refills every two to three weeks. Clusters give you most of the extension look with none of the appointments.

The honest summary: classic extensions still last the longest. Clusters are for everyone who wants close to that look without the cost and the refill appointments — and if you would rather not do them yourself, you can have them applied in our studio.

Some women simply prefer cluster lashes applied professionally. Sigita applies them by appointment in our Rothesay Bay studio on Auckland's North Shore, using the same clusters we sell.

Call to book

How long do cluster lashes last?

Pre-glued clusters last 3–7 days; bond & seal clusters last 5–10 days. Where you land in that range comes down to your natural lashes, how oily your skin is, and whether you sleep on your face.

  • Never use strip-lash glue. It is designed to peel off after one night. Pre-glued clusters already carry the right adhesive; bond & seal clusters need a proper lash bonder.
  • Seal bond & seal sets. The sealer step locks the bond and is what gets you to the top of the range.
  • Keep oil away. Oil-based cleansers, heavy eye creams and waterproof mascara all dissolve the bond. Cleanse around the eye, not through it.
  • Sleep on your back if you can. A silk pillowcase helps if you cannot.

Take a set off when it is done rather than topping it up indefinitely. Old adhesive builds up, and that build-up — not the clusters themselves — is what causes the tugging people complain about.

More questions about cluster lashes

What is the difference between cluster lashes and individual extensions?
Extensions are applied one lash at a time by a technician and take one to two hours. Clusters are pre-made fans of several lashes applied in groups, so a full set takes about ten minutes and you can do it yourself.
Are cluster lashes the same as strip lashes?
No. A strip lash is one continuous band that sits on top of your lash line and comes off at the end of the night. Clusters are separate small fans placed under your natural lashes, so they follow your own lash line and stay on for several days.
Which style should I start with?
01 Textured Natural is our softest style and a great first cluster: light, textured and blends into your natural lashes. If you want a little more, 02 Wispy Volume gives a fluffy, dimensional extension effect. 03 True Volume and 04 Mega Volume are for a fuller, more glamorous look.
Can I wear mascara with cluster lashes?
You can, but you should not need to, and oil-based or waterproof mascara will break down the adhesive and shorten your wear time. If you want more depth, use a water-based mascara on the tips only.
Do cluster lashes work on hooded or downturned eyes?
Yes, and they are often easier to place than a strip lash because each cluster follows your own lash line. A softer style such as 01 Textured Natural or 02 Wispy Volume usually suits hooded eyes best. If you are unsure, book a salon appointment and we will show you what works for your eye shape.
